Samuel Butler
Samuel Butler (1613–1680) was an English poet, the author of Hudibras (1663–78), a mock-heroic satire on the Puritans written in galloping octosyllabic couplets. Little is known of his early life, and he died poor.
The archive also holds the whole of Hudibras, in three parts, as a work of its own. The short pieces listed here are those that James Parton printed as his epigrammatic and satirical verses in his anthology of English humorous poetry.
