Benjamin Copeland

1855–1940

Benjamin Copeland (1855–1940) was a Methodist Episcopal minister in western New York, and the author of pastoral and devotional verse. He wrote hymn-like pieces for the church year, nature lyrics, and occasional poems on public figures and events.

The poems here come from two of his books: Poems: Pastoral and Psalm (New York: Eaton & Mains, 1896) and Niagara, and Other Poems (Buffalo: Matthews-Northrup, 1904). Where a poem appears in both, the 1904 text is given.
