Christopher Pearse Cranch

1813–1892

Christopher Pearse Cranch (1813–1892) was an American poet, painter and Unitarian minister, born at Alexandria, Virginia. He belonged to the Transcendentalist circle, contributing to The Dial, and later lived for years in Europe as a landscape painter.

His volume Poems (1844) and his later books show a gentle idealism; he also translated Virgil’s Aeneid into blank verse.
