Louisa Macartney Crawford

dates not given by Stedman

Louisa Macartney Crawford was a contributor to Chapman and Hall’s Metropolitan Magazine from about 1835, where she published a series of autobiographical sketches.

She wrote the words for several books of songs set by the composer F. Nicholls Crouch; “Kathleen Mavourneen” appeared in the first of the series, Echoes from the Lakes. The poem here is taken from Edmund Clarence Stedman’s A Victorian Anthology, 1837–1895 (1895).
