Dafydd Benfras

fl. 1230–1260

Dafydd Benfras was a court poet of the Welsh princes of Gwynedd, who flourished, according to the Dictionary of Welsh Biography, between about 1230 and 1260. He wrote praise poems for Llywelyn ap Iorwerth and Llywelyn ap Gruffydd and elegies for sons of Llywelyn the Great.

The poem here is George Borrow's English version, from his Quarterly Review article on Welsh poetry, printed in Welsh Poems and Ballads (1915).
