Thomas Dermody

1775–1802

Thomas Dermody (1775–1802), born at Ennis, was a precocious poet sometimes called the "Chatterton of Ireland". Poverty and drink dogged him, and he died in a hovel near Sydenham.

The poems here are taken from H. Halliday Sparling's anthology Irish Minstrelsy (London: Walter Scott, 1888).
