J. H. Dixon

1803–1876

James Henry Dixon (1803–1876) was a local historian and antiquary of the Craven country, who edited for the Percy Society the collection Ancient Poems, Ballads, and Songs of the Peasantry of England (1846).

He wrote comparatively little verse of his own; Moorman singles out "The Milkin'-Time" for its lilt, and mentions a longer poem, "Slaadburn Faar" (1871). The poem here is taken from Moorman's Yorkshire Dialect Poems (1916).
