Sydney Dobell
Sydney Thompson Dobell (1824–1874) was an English poet and critic, associated with the so-called "Spasmodic" school of the 1850s. He made his name with the dramatic poem The Roman (1850, as "Sydney Yendys") and followed it with Balder (1854) and, with Alexander Smith, Sonnets on the War (1855).
He was a frail man who spent his later years in the Cotswolds and on the Continent in search of health; his collected Poems appeared in 1875, after his death.
