Lord Alfred Douglas

1870–1945

Lord Alfred Douglas (1870–1945) was an English poet, the younger son of the Marquess of Queensberry, and the close companion of Oscar Wilde, whose trials in 1895 made both their names notorious.

His own sonnets and lyrics, written in a clear late-Romantic manner, appeared in volumes such as The City of the Soul (1899). The poem here comes from Untermeyer's Modern British Poetry (1920).
