John Ellerton

1826–1893

John Ellerton (1826–1893) was an English hymn-writer and hymnologist.

The poems here are taken from Alfred H. Miles (ed.), The Poets and the Poetry of the Century (London: Hutchinson, 1891–1897), vol. 10, from the Internet Archive scans of that edition. Spelling is that of the anthology; Miles's biographical essay and extracts from longer poems are omitted, and only poems that could be read cleanly from the scan are included.

  1. Throned upon the Awful Tree
  2. The day Thou gavest, Lord, is ended
  3. Saviour, again to Thy dear name we raise
  4. Now the Laborer's Task Is O'er
