Charlotte Elliott

1789–1871

Charlotte Elliott (1789–1871) was an English evangelical Anglican poet, hymn-writer and editor, best known for the hymn “Just as I Am”.

The poems here are taken from Alfred H. Miles (ed.), The Poets and the Poetry of the Century (London: Hutchinson, 1891–1897), vol. 10, from the Internet Archive scans of that edition. Spelling is that of the anthology; Miles's biographical essay and extracts from longer poems are omitted, and only poems that could be read cleanly from the scan are included.

  1. Just as I am — without one plea
  2. Christian! seek not yet repose,
  3. Let me be with Thee
