Ebenezer Elliott

1781–1849

Ebenezer Elliott (1781–1849) was an English poet and Sheffield iron merchant, known as the “Corn Law Rhymer” for the verse he wrote against the Corn Laws.

The poems here are taken from Alfred H. Miles (ed.), The Poets and the Poetry of the Century (London: Hutchinson, 1891–1897), vol. 2, from the Internet Archive scans of that edition. Spelling is that of the anthology; Miles's biographical essay and extracts from longer poems are omitted, and only poems that could be read cleanly from the scan are included.
