Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882) was an American essayist, lecturer, and poet from Concord, Massachusetts, and the leading voice of the Transcendentalist movement, which prized intuition, nature, and individual conscience over inherited tradition.
Best known for essays such as ‘Self-Reliance’ and ‘Nature’, he also wrote compact, philosophical verse — including ‘Concord Hymn’, ‘The Rhodora’, and ‘Brahma’ — that distilled his ideas into poetic form.
