Fârisî (Sultan 'Osman II)

d. 1622

'Osman II was named Sultan in 1618, in the fourteenth year of his age, when the imbecile Mustafa I was removed from the throne, and wrote verse under the pen-name Farisi.

The poems here are taken from E. J. W. Gibb's Ottoman Poems (1882), the first English verse translations of Ottoman poetry; dates and biographical details follow Gibb's Biographical Notices.
