Lamar Fontaine

1829–1921

Lamar Fontaine (1829–1921) was an American Confederate soldier and writer from the South who claimed authorship of "All Quiet Along the Potomac To-Night".

That claim is disputed: the poem was first published in 1861 under the name of Ethel Lynn Beers. It is reprinted here under his name because W. L. Fagan's Southern War Songs (1890) attributes it to him, together with "Only a Soldier".

  1. All Quiet Along the Potomac To-Night
  2. Only a Soldier
