1852–1930

Mary Eleanor Wilkins Freeman (1852–1930) was an American writer, born in Randolph, Massachusetts. She is known chiefly for her short stories and novels of New England village life, published first as Mary E. Wilkins and, after her marriage in 1902, under the name Freeman.

Her verse is slight beside her prose; the poem here appeared in Harper’s in 1890.
