Johann Anastasius Freylinghausen

1670–1739

Johann Anastasius Freylinghausen (1670–1739) was a pietist theologian at Halle, the son-in-law of A. H. Francke, and the editor of the Geistreiches Gesangbuch (1704), a principal hymn-book of German Pietism; he also wrote hymns.

The single piece here is John Wesley’s English translation, printed in Hymns and Sacred Poems (1739); Osborn’s footnote names Freylinghausen as the author of the German original.
