Gruffudd Hiraethog

Gruffudd Hiraethog (died 1564) was a Welsh bard and herald, best known as the teacher of the next generation of poets, among them Wiliam Llŷn and Siôn Tudur. He also compiled a Welsh dictionary and a collection of proverbs. He is not the nineteenth-century poet Gwilym Hiraethog.

The poem here is a couplet in George Borrow's English version, from Wild Wales, printed in Welsh Poems and Ballads (1915).
