Guiraut de Bornelh

fl. 1175–1220

Guiraut de Bornelh (Giraut of Borneil in Farnell) was a troubadour whose gentle love-songs the King of Aragon, in the Life of Bertran de Born that Farnell translates, is said to have paired with Bertran's warlike sirventes. She notes that he travelled with two singers who performed his songs for him.

The verse in this selection is Ida Farnell's English version in The Lives of the Troubadours (London: David Nutt, 1896), where it stands beside a prose Life of the poet; the prose Life is not reproduced here. The dates are those Farnell prints for the period in which the poet was active, and the Old Occitan original is not included.
