Alfred Gurney

1843–1898

Alfred Gurney (1843–1898) was an English cleric and writer, the second son of John Hampden Gurney and a brother of the psychical researcher Edmund Gurney.

The poem here carries a line from Tennyson as its epigraph. The poems printed here are those given in The Oxford Book of English Mystical Verse (1917), edited by D. H. S. Nicholson and A. H. E. Lee; the text is taken from that anthology.
