Christopher Harvey

1597–1663

Christopher Harvey (1597–1663) was an English clergyman and poet. His best-known book, The Synagogue (1640), was written in imitation of George Herbert’s The Temple, and was long printed with it.

The poems printed here are those given in The Oxford Book of English Mystical Verse (1917), edited by D. H. S. Nicholson and A. H. E. Lee; the text is taken from that anthology.
