Tudor & Elizabethan
Stephen Hawes
Stephen Hawes was an English poet who served as a groom of the chamber to Henry VII, best known for his allegorical romance ‘The Pastime of Pleasure.’
His verse bridges medieval allegory and the new humanism of the early Tudor court, and he was among the last English poets to write in the tradition of Chaucer and Lydgate.
