Isabel Stuart, Countess of Argyll

fl. 1459

Isabel Stuart was the second daughter of Stuart, Lord of Lorn, and married Archibald, first Earl of Argyll, whose title dates from 1457. Sigerson, in Bards of the Gael and Gall (1907), dates her poem to 1459.

“Love Untold” is preserved in the Book of the Dean of Lismore, and Sigerson reads in it a hidden romance. It is given here in his English version.
