Violet Jacob

1863–1946

Violet Jacob (born Violet Augusta Mary Frederica Kennedy-Erskine, 1863-1946) was a Scottish poet and novelist, born at the House of Dun in Angus. In 1894 she married Arthur Otway Jacob, a soldier, and spent a number of years abroad with him, including a period in India.

Her novel Flemington (1911) was followed by Songs of Angus (1915), with a preface by John Buchan, and More Songs of Angus and Others (1918). Her poems in the Scots of her native Angus are among the best-loved of the early twentieth century. She died in Kirriemuir in 1946.
