Jami
Nur al-Din Abd al-Rahman Jami (1414–1492) was born at Jam in Khorasan and spent most of his life at Herat, then the cultural capital of the Timurid world. Poet, Sufi of the Naqshbandi order, scholar and biographer, he is generally counted the last great classical Persian poet, and his Haft Awrang (Seven Thrones) gathers his long narrative poems, among them Yusuf and Zulaikha.
Here he is represented by Ralph T. H. Griffith's English verse translation of Yusuf and Zulaikha (London, 1882), which retells the Qur'anic and Biblical story of Joseph and the vizier's wife as a Sufi allegory of the soul's longing for divine beauty. It is given as a single long work.
