Samuel Johnson

1822–1882

Samuel Johnson (1822–1882) was an American Unitarian minister, born in Salem, Massachusetts. He preached for many years at Lynn, Massachusetts, and is remembered for his large study Oriental Religions and Their Relation to Universal Religion and for his hymns. He is not the eighteenth-century English lexicographer of the same name.

The two hymns given here are taken from Edmund Clarence Stedman’s An American Anthology, 1787–1900 (1900).
