Mary Jones

c. 1707–1778

Mary Jones (c. 1707–1778) was an English poet who lived at Oxford with her brother, a clergyman, and was a friend of Lady Bridgeman. Her Miscellanies in Prose and Verse appeared in 1750.

The poem here is the one printed under her name in Frederick Locker's Lyra Elegantiarum (London: E. Moxon, 1867), an anthology of vers de société and vers d'occasion by deceased authors; the texts follow that first edition.
