James Kenney

1780–1849

James Kenney (1780–1849) was an English dramatist whose farce Raising the Wind (1803) introduced the character Jeremy Diddler. He wrote many comedies, operettas and melodramas for the London stage.

The poem here is the one printed under his name in Frederick Locker's Lyra Elegantiarum (London: E. Moxon, 1867), an anthology of vers de société and vers d'occasion by deceased authors; the texts follow that first edition.
