T. M. Kettle

1880–1916

Thomas Michael Kettle (1880–1916) was an Irish economist, journalist and Nationalist member of Parliament, who joined the army in the First World War and was killed at Ginchy on the Somme in September 1916.

His sonnet to his infant daughter, written shortly before his death, is the best known of his few poems. It comes from Untermeyer's Modern British Poetry (1920).
