Mary Lamb

1764–1847

Mary Lamb was an English writer and the elder sister of Charles Lamb. Her prose and verse appeared mostly in collaboration with her brother, notably the children's books Tales from Shakespeare (1807) and Mrs. Leicester's School (1809).

After a family tragedy in 1796 she lived for long periods in the care of her brother, who looked after her for the rest of his life. Her own verse, mostly occasional pieces, was printed alongside his in the Works of Charles Lamb.
