Samuel Laycock (1826–1893) was a Lancashire dialect poet who worked in a mill from his youth and began writing verse early. He later lived at Blackpool, where he died.

His books include Lancashire Rhymes (1864), Lancashire Songs (1866) and Lancashire Poems, Tales and Recitations (1875). The poems here are taken from Edmund Clarence Stedman’s A Victorian Anthology, 1837–1895 (1895).
