Lycophron

fl. early 3rd century BC

Lycophron of Chalcis was a Greek poet and scholar of the early third century BC, said to have worked on the comedies in the Library of Alexandria under Ptolemy II.

The Alexandra, a 1474-line poem in iambic trimeters attributed to him, is a deliberately obscure prophecy delivered by Cassandra and reported by a slave. Mair’s Loeb prose translation (1921) is given in the Works section.
