George H. Miles

George Henry Miles (1824–1871) was an American poet and dramatist, a professor of English at Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

He wrote the words of "God Save the South" (1861), a Confederate "national hymn" set to music by C. W. A. Ellerbrock and published at New Orleans; the song is reprinted here from W. L. Fagan's Southern War Songs (1890).
