Susan L. Mitchell

Susan Langstaff Mitchell (1866–1926) was an Irish writer and poet, born at Carrick-on-Shannon, known for her satirical verse. Her volume The Living Chalice appeared in 1908.

The first poem here shares its title with that volume. The poems printed here are those given in The Oxford Book of English Mystical Verse (1917), edited by D. H. S. Nicholson and A. H. E. Lee; the text is taken from that anthology.
