Mukta Bai

13th century

Mukta Bai (Muktabai) is a Marathi woman saint-poet of the 13th century, traditionally the younger sister of Jnanesvar and a member of the same circle of Maharashtrian devotional (bhakti) poets.

Macnicol's Psalms of Maratha Saints (1919) gives two of her short songs (abhangs): a riddling poem of the topsy-turvy world of the enlightened soul, and a plea to her brother to open the door.

  1. The Land of Topsy-Turvy
  2. A Remonstrance
