John Henry Newman

1801–1890

John Henry Newman (1801–1890) was an English theologian, historian and poet, who became a Roman Catholic and later a cardinal.

The poems here are taken from Alfred H. Miles (ed.), The Poets and the Poetry of the Century (London: Hutchinson, 1891–1897), vol. 10, from the Internet Archive scans of that edition. Spelling is that of the anthology; Miles's biographical essay and extracts from longer poems are omitted, and only poems that could be read cleanly from the scan are included.
