Eliza Jane Nicholson ("Pearl Rivers")

Eliza Jane Nicholson (1843–1896), who wrote as "Pearl Rivers", was an American poet and journalist born in Mississippi. After the death of her husband she became publisher of the New Orleans Picayune, one of the first women to run a major daily newspaper in the United States.

"True to the Gray" is reprinted here from W. L. Fagan's Southern War Songs (1890).
