John O'Hagan

1822–1890

John O'Hagan (1822–1890), born at Newry, was a judge and accomplished linguist who translated the Song of Roland. The Nation poems signed "Sliabh Cuilinn" have been attributed to him, though Sparling notes he never acknowledged them.

The poems here are taken from H. Halliday Sparling's anthology Irish Minstrelsy (London: Walter Scott, 1888).
