John Oldmixon

1673–1742

John Oldmixon (1673–1742) was an English Whig historian and pamphleteer, author of a critical history of England and a target of Pope's Dunciad. He also wrote songs and light verse.

The poem here is the one printed under his name in Frederick Locker's Lyra Elegantiarum (London: E. Moxon, 1867), an anthology of vers de société and vers d'occasion by deceased authors; the texts follow that first edition.
