James Orr
James Orr (1770–1816), the "Bard of Ballycarry", was a weaver who contributed to the Northern Star, joined the United Irishmen and fought at Antrim in 1798. He wrote "Song of an Exile" on a voyage into exile, soon returned, and died at his loom.
The poems here are taken from H. Halliday Sparling's anthology Irish Minstrelsy (London: Walter Scott, 1888).
