James Lord Pierpont
James Lord Pierpont (1822–1893) was an American composer and songwriter, born in Boston, the son of the Unitarian minister and poet John Pierpont. He is best known for "One Horse Open Sleigh" (1857), later called "Jingle Bells".
He settled in the South before the Civil War and served the Confederacy; his Confederate lyrics include "We Conquer or Die" (1861). He died in Winter Haven, Florida. He is a different man from his father, the poet John Pierpont, who has his own file in the archive.
