Robert Pollok

1798–1827

Robert Pollok (1798–1827) was a Scottish poet, a divinity student of the Secession Church. His blank-verse epic The Course of Time (1827), a vision of human history to the Last Judgement, went through many editions; it was published by Blackwood of Edinburgh only months before his early death from consumption.

Charles Rogers also included one song under his name, 'The African Maid', in volume 4 of The Modern Scottish Minstrel (six volumes, Edinburgh: Adam & Charles Black, 1855–57); it is kept here in Rogers's spelling, and is not part of The Course of Time.
