John Pomfret

John Pomfret was an English clergyman and poet who became rector of Maulden in Bedfordshire. He published a volume of poems in 1699, including Pindaric essays in the manner of Cowley.

His poem The Choice, a wish for a quiet country life, became one of the most widely read short poems of its time and is printed in full by Gilfillan.
