Metaphysical & Cavalier

Laurence Price

fl. 1625–1680?

Laurence (or Lawrence) Price was a London ballad-writer and pamphleteer who was at work from the 1620s and, by the catalogue's reckoning, into the 1680s, writing for the popular press on murders, monsters, wonders, love and the quarrels of his day, often signing L. P. Nothing is firmly known of his life.

The ballads in this archive are broadside sheets from the Text Creation Partnership (EEBO-TCP) transcriptions. Attribution follows the TCP catalogue, which names Price, or the printed signature L. P.; the note on each ballad records its TCP number and printing date. Long s is normalised and the original spelling otherwise kept.
