Allan Ramsay was a Scottish poet, wig-maker and bookseller in Edinburgh, born at Leadhills in Lanarkshire. He founded a circulating library, edited the Tea-Table Miscellany and wrote the pastoral drama The Gentle Shepherd. He is not to be confused with the nineteenth-century John Ramsay also in this archive.

Gilfillan prints two of his songs, Lochaber No More and The Last Time I Came o'er the Moor.
