John Hamilton Reynolds

1794–1852

John Hamilton Reynolds (1794–1852) was an English poet and lawyer, a close friend of John Keats and a brother-in-law of Thomas Hood, with whom he wrote Odes and Addresses to Great People (1825).

The poem here is the one printed under his name in Frederick Locker's Lyra Elegantiarum (London: E. Moxon, 1867), an anthology of vers de société and vers d'occasion by deceased authors; the texts follow that first edition.
