Christian Friedrich Richter

1676–1711

Christian Friedrich Richter (1676–1711) was a physician and pietist hymn-writer at Halle, where he was connected with the institutions of A. H. Francke. Several of his hymns passed into the Herrnhuth Collection and Knapp’s Evangelischer Liederschatz.

The pieces here are John Wesley’s English translations of 1738–42. Osborn’s footnotes name Richter (“Dr. C. F. Richter, of Halle”) as author of the German originals; for “In Affliction or Pain” he gives the reference as a comparison.
