Nicholas Rowe

Nicholas Rowe (1674–1718) was an English dramatist and poet, author of the tragedies Tamerlane (1701), The Fair Penitent (1703) and Jane Shore (1714). He edited Shakespeare (1709) and became Poet Laureate in 1715.

His verse translation of Lucan's Pharsalia appeared in 1718; the archive holds it as a work. The poem given here is his pastoral ballad Colin's Complaint.
