Thomas Sackville
Thomas Sackville, first Earl of Dorset, was an English statesman, Lord High Treasurer and poet. With Thomas Norton he wrote the tragedy Gorboduc (1561). His Induction and Complaint of Henry, Duke of Buckingham first appeared in the 1563 edition of A Mirror for Magistrates and are generally regarded as the finest verse in the collection.
The poems here are taken from Joseph Haslewood’s 1815 reprint of Part III.
