Sean O’Coileann

c. 1754–1816

Sean O’Coileann (O’Cullane) was, according to Sigerson in Bards of the Gael and Gall (1907), one of the O’Coileanns, chiefs of Castlelyons, born about 1754 in Co. Cork and dead in 1816. He composed a lament for Timoleague Abbey that was translated by Sir Samuel Ferguson.

Two of his vision-songs, “The Dear White Youth” and “The Forest Fair”, are given here in Sigerson’s English versions.

  1. The Dear White Youth
  2. The Forest Fair
